The Kids Protection Plan

Many of you have been asking about the Kids Protection Plan, so here’s all the info and the story behind it.

As you know, I’m a mom.  My daughter Kaia just turned 7 and my son Noah is 3 1/2.  I was talking with a friend one day about what would happen if something happened to her and she told me that she was most concerned about what would happen in the short term.  She felt secure that in the long-term her kids would be taken care of by a family member she trusted, but she didn’t know what would happen in those immediate moments and hours after a tragedy.

I thought her concerns through and realized that the worst possible thing might happen. If my children were home with their babysitter and the police showed up at my door because their dad and I had been in an accident.  If there wasn’t a clear documented plan in place designating local people as having my documented permission to stay with my children, the police could have no choice but to call in Child Protective Services and take my scared and confused children out of my home until they could figure out what to do.

This possibility was unacceptable to me.

So, I put together the Kids Protection Plan (aka Family Emergency Response Plan), which is a set of documents that are execute by every parent of minor children we work with.  It’s a plan with clear guidance and instructions that is given to the caregiver, the local guardians, and if necessary, the nominated long-term guardians for the care of the children in a crisis situation, such as the death or incapacity of their parents.

We charge an extra $1,000 per estate plan to incorporate the Kids Protection Plan into our clients planning.  And, we sell the Kids Protection Planning Kit (a DIY Kit for parents) to non-clients from $247-$597.

The Kids Protection Plan can be utilized by planning attorneys in a number of ways:

1. As a way to provide maximum value to parents of minor children and distinguish yourself as a premier planning attorney for parents of minor children.

2. As a lead generation system.

3. As a fundraiser for local pre-schools, churches, synagogues, or other organizations.

4. As an extra source of firm revenue by becoming a Master Affiliate.  You keep 25% of the hard copy sales price and 50% of the electronic sales price.

The Kids Protection Plan System is being licensed on a pre-release basis for $995, which is a one-time licensing fee only available to members of the Family Wealth Planning Institute.  And, the license to use the Kids Protection Plan system and name is only valid for continuing Family Wealth Planning Institute members.  If your membership ends, so does your license.

Currently, the system is available in template document format using Word files and we anticipate having the tested HotDocs (integrated with WDocs as much as possible) version, ready no later than February 1, 2007.  The first 17 pre-release purchasers will receive the upgrade at no additional charge.

I anticipate the release price to be in the $1,495 range at least.  I’m thinking that’s too inexpensive, so we’ll see.

Here’s the link to the Kids Protection Plan System.  Get it Pre-Release now and save at least $500.

Your system will include:

  • All of the template documents you’ll need to prepare the Kids Protection Plan(tm) in your office.
  • The scripts to use with your clients to show them the value of the plan and to design the plan easily.
  • The detailed instructions you can give to your assistant or use yourself to complete the templates, review them with the client and deliver them.
  • A full marketing plan for the use of the Kids Protection Plan System in your office that will establish you as the premier planning attorney for parents of minor children in your community.
  • PLUS, you’ll get to be a Master Affiliate so you can sell the Kids Protection Planning Kit(tm) to parents in your community and serve even more families while generating revenue and leads for your firm.
  • And, if you’re one of the first 17 people to license the Kids Protection Plan System, you’ll receive the fully automated HotDocs version as soon as its ready in February 2007 at no additional charge.  A $500 value!

    Alexis,

I just posted on the IM service, but I would like to know your thoughts regarding incorporating more special needs stuff into the Kit–particulary with respect to the instructions for caregivers. There are lots of special needs parents groups out there, and they all need planning. By the way, the Kit looks great!!

    Kirsten,

Please let me know what you would like to see incorporated and if it seems like a fit, I’ll make it happen.

Send an email with your suggestions to support@familywealthmatters.com.

Thanks for your thoughts and feedback!

This sounds interesting and I’d be willing to purchase a license, but there’s no way I’d give ANY of the profits to you. That’s a rip-off and may violate professional rules re: fee sharing.
